307 Intraluminal Migration of Gossypiboma and rectal expulsion an unusual Case- Case Report

Abstract Background Gossypiboma refers to foreign body retained in the at end of operation and can be form gauze, sponge or any textile resulting grave consequences for both patient surgeon. Case Summary A 23-year-old female presented with complain generalized abdominal pain along non-bilious vomiting since 10 days. She also had relative constipation four Her past surgical history was unremarkable except three elective lower segment caesarean sections another hospital. Upon examination, she a scar pfannenstiel incision 3x4 cm swelling umbilical region positive cough impulse. bowel sounds were exaggerated. DRE unyielding. Clinical diagnosis subacute intestinal obstruction made managed conservatively. Ultrasound abdomen showed dilated gut loops hyperperistalsis. It revealed defect measuring 8.5 supraumbilical anterior wall through which fat content seen protruding. advised contrast enhanced CT abdomen, developed diarrhoea later on expelled per rectally. After passage sponge, condition improved symptoms resolved. Discussion Diligent efforts are required prevent this human error by ensuring meticulous count, use radio-opaque sponges, adjunctive WHO safety checklist introduction new advancements like tagging system our healthcare system. Conclusion is under-reported due reluctance institutions report it governing body. Reporting such dreadful complications surgery analysis their root cause should done events from happening.
